Moving to Lexington, SC can be FUN!

moving to lexington sc

Moving can be stressful, and it can be even frustrating when you don’t have any friends to have fun with. Whether you are moving across town or across the country, settling into a new city can be a challenge. But rest assured, if you take the time to connect to your new surroundings new friends are sure to follow.

We’ve helped hundreds of people move into the Lexington, SC area and have a few tips on making the transition a bit easier.

Make the Chamber Your First Stop

Every city has one, including Lexington.  The Greater Lexington Chamber and Visitor Center specializes in making you feel at home.  They have an array of business brochures and visitor guides just waiting for you.

Rely on Phone Apps

It seems like a no-brainer, but relying on a phone app can save you a lot of time.  Apps like Nextdoor and TripAdvisor will let you know where you can find the best restaurants, grocery stores, and neighborhood hangouts. Nextdoor is a private social networking app that has over 145,000 neighborhoods where you can learn all about your new area. Nextdoor is available for both Andriod and iPhone and will help you learn about local services, safety, and keep you in the loop to what is happening around you.

Use Social Media

Facebook Neighborhood Groups are great for connecting you with people in your immediate neighborhood.  People generally want to be helpful, so don’t be afraid to ask for recommendations for restaurants, nail salons, babysitters, and even churches. Just dropping the one line “I’ve just moved here” will work wonders and it's remarkable how friendly people can be to newcomers.

Take the Initiative

You are not going to make friends by sitting at home in front of the television.  Get out and experience the area. Go for a walk, strike up a conversation at a coffee shop, and get involved in the community. During the summer months, Lexington has an array of free events that can get you out and about. Check out the Chambers Community Calendar for a complete list of events in the area.

Do you like to volunteer?

Check out the website volunteermatch.org for volunteer opportunities in the greater Midlands area. Whether it’s joining your neighborhood HOA or volunteering at a local food bank, getting involved in your new community is the perfect place to meet new friends.

Embrace your Hobbies

The perfect way to find people who share a common interest is signing up for classes or groups.  Whether you play softball or enjoy art classes, there is sure to be a group or club you can join. Anything that will get you out socializing will make you feel more at home in your new surroundings.

Take it easy on yourself.

While it can take up to six months to get a feel for your new area, remember its friends that make you feel like its home. Take the time to let friendships build naturally and don’t force it.  Get involved and don’t let opportunities go to waste.

Property Checklist for Preparing Your House for Sale in Lexington, SC

Over the years you’ve created a home that matches your personality, it’s a part of who you are, and probably reflects your personal style. While that’s the perfect scenario for living in your home, it is not the ideal atmosphere for selling your home.

Most home sellers make the mistake of assuming the way they live in their home is the way it should be when selling. Unfortaualty it’s not. Homebuyers are not looking for a house that they can fit in to.  They are looking for a home in which THEY will feel comfortable and can envision themselves living in. This may sound like a minor distinction, but it is crucial in the home selling process. If you can wrap your head around this fact, you will have a much better selling experience.

First and foremost, you must understand that people have different tastes. The particular chandelier or wall color that made your home yours may seem appealing to you, but not to all buyers. Emotionally, you must be prepared to replace or put away those things that you hold dear.

Remember, when selling a home it is a product to be sold and nothing else. Before you list your home take some time to make your home show worthy and consider doing a FREE Market Analysis on your home

We’ve come up with a checklist for selling a house that you can use to get started:

  • Put a fresh coat of paint on the front door. – First impressions are important.
  • Tone down colorful walls. Soft muted colors with minimal accessories are what you should aim for.
  • Clean up closets – sellers look.
  • In the bathroom, bright white towels and sparkling clean sinks and showers will do wonders to sell a most personal space.
  • Clean up garages – sellers consider it a sign of how you took care of the home.
  • Clean the refrigerator – make it spotless. We are talking surgical room spotless.
  • Same goes for the oven.
  • If you have an attic, clean and organize it. Buyers will look everywhere.
  • Make sure all light bulbs work.
  • Fertilize the yard a few weeks before listing the home.
  • Plant new colorful flowers, trim shrubs and be sure the lawn stay mowed and manicured.
  • Repair leaky faucets.
  • Consider replacing worn or old fixtures.
  • Clean the windows.
  • Remove all accessories, pictures and personal belongings that reflect your personal style.

Again, the goal is not to show a home you enjoy living in. The goal is to show a home the buyer could be comfortable living in. Try and remember when selling your home, it’s not about you anymore, it’s about the buyer and what you need to do to make your home as appealing to them as possible. Take some time and work through the checklist for selling a house and then call us, your Lexington, SC Realtor.
